Overview
It’s not just the vastness and depth of the Colca that make it so fantastical, it’s the shifts in its mood. There are more scenery changes along the river canyon’s 62-mile (100km) passage than there are in most European countries; from the barren steppe of Sibayo, through the ancient terraced farmland of Yanque and Chivay toward the cruising condors riding warm air currents, into the steep-sided canyon proper beyond Cabanaconde that wasn’t thoroughly explored until the 1980s. Of course we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to the vital statistics. The Colca is the world’s second-deepest canyon, a smidgeon shallower than its near neighbor, the Cotahausi, and twice as deep as the more famous Grand Canyon in the US. But, more than that, it is replete with history, culture, ruins, tradition and – rather like Machu Picchu – intangible Peruvian magic.

7:30am We pick you up from your hotel, bus station or airport then we begin our journey to the Colca Valley following the road that goes to the Yura cement factory, later on we pass near a beautiful valley named Quiscos and after 2:00hrs we enter into the Vicuña National Reserve, first stop to enjoy this beautiful landscape, take pictures and learn about life and behavior of the South American camelids, at this point 4000meters we enjoy a delicious Inca tea, that will help us mitigate any symptoms of altitude sickness, then we head to the wetlands where we can observe other wildlife species such as birds, rabbits and maybe andean foxes all of them typical of the Andes, 30 minutes later we get to the starting point for our first bike descent known as PATAPAMPA at 4910meters a natural viewpoint and the highest place of the entire expedition from here we have a spectacular panoramic view of Mismi volcano origin of the Amazon River also the Imposing Ampato volcano famous for having preserved the mummified body of the Inca Princess named Juanita, sacrificed more than 5 centuries ago as well as we will see the show of the second most active volcano of Peru, Sabancaya.
The first descent will be a little over 30km on paved terrain with a difference of level of about 1300meters, we start this wonderful experience crossing small hills and springs making some stops on the way down to rest, drink liquid and take some photos, after a long journey we will arrive to Chivay town considered as the largest and most important of all Colca province, here we take enough time to enjoy a delicious typical lunch also to rest because then, we continue biking along the left bank of the Colca river crossing incredible Pre-Inca terraces observing the local people to carry out their daily activities, arriving to Yanque village we stop to visit the church and Main plaza, then it is time to relax the muscles at the hot springs (38ºC – 40ºC) for about one hour or more depending on the time, then transfer to the hotel, this day dinner will be served at 7:30 pm. at a local restaurant.

6:00am Breakfast will be served then we go on by car to the famous viewpoint known as Cruz del Cóndor, during the journey we stop briefly to take pictures of the wonderful Colca Valley, its thousands of pre-Inca terraces, colonial towns, mountains etc. one at the condors area we stop for about one hour to enjoy the majestic flight of the condors and view of the impressive depth of the Canyon.
After that great moment we will be ready to begin our adventure, this day the terrain is unpaved road the development will be similar to the previous day short stops for drinking water, eating some snacks, and enjoying the scenery after 3:30 hours of mostly descent we will reach one of the deepest part of the canyon situated near the Colca river then we have to take a short walk for about 15 min to get to a very small village known as PALLCA the place for us to enjoy a delicious local lunch, prepared by a nice family with fresh vegetables and local products, the afternoon is free, for resting, go to the thermal baths or simply interact with the locals.
7:00 pm dinner will be ready, it is the perfect moment to have an interesting conversation with our tour guide which will explain you about the culture, ethnic groups, customs, traditions and everything that is still preserved in the canyon as well as a briefing about the activities for the next day.

Today we have to cover the longest distance of this exciting expedition that is why we have to wake up a little earlier, the breakfast will be served at 6:00 am after that we are ready to board our private vehicle to get the first high pass of this day Mokurca, this first descent on our bicycles take us to the last big village in the Colca province it name is Huambo 3000 meters this day the nature offers us spectacular views of the other part of the canyon and it is not touristic at all, which makes it more interesting it is very quiet and pleasant we will get the best view of the Ampato volcano considered as an Inca God and for having the life of an Inca Princess as an offering to calm down its fury, during the way we have to cross between two very small twin volcanoes no higher than 300meters to get to Querque where the second and the last descent begins, this time we ride our bicycles towards the coastal desert for about 3hrs and after that, it is time to rest pack up everything and go for a lunch, later on we take the Panamericana highway to return to Arequipa city around 7:00 pm
