OVERVIEW
Pichu Pichu is known as the sleeping Indian, the origin of this volcano is explained by several legends, in one of them it is said that a warrior raped the Inca’s daughter, whom he left pregnant and he did not want to accept responsibility, for which he was persecuted.
Desperate, he wanted to flee along a path near the Pichu Pichu volcano, but tired, he fell asleep at dusk on the slopes of the volcano. When dawn came he was castrated and punished for his rebellion. The Sun God condemned him to sleep forever.
That is why this volcano seen from afar looks like a sleeping Indian who has no sexual apparatus.
Pichu Pichu is a volcano located in southern Peru in Arequipa department. It is very eroded, and is made up of seven peaks, Coronado is the main and the highest peak this one still preserves a ceremonial platform in which the Incas made offerings. It is located to the east of Arequipa city, from which it is 32 km in a straight line.
During expeditions led by archaeologists José Antonio Chávez and Johan Reinhard, three Inca mummies were found near the summit. One of them is exhibited in the José María Morante archaeological museum of the National University of San Agustín, under the name of the Pichu Pichu mummy.

8:00am or 1:00pm we pick up participants from their respective hotels and then head south east to 4200m, this descent by bike from Pichu Pichu is one of the most exciting in Arequipa city.
On the way up to the mountain We stop to take some pictures and stretch our legs, this tour pass through one of the oldest towns of the Arequipa city whose name is CHIGUATA which comes from 2 Quechua voices “CHIRI” means cold and “GUATA” means year (cold all year) it is a beautiful place and offers archaeological evidence for having been populated since very early times during the Inca domination it was very important because of the control of salt that until today is exploited from Salinas lagoon.
Once we get the starting point known as Simbral 4200meters we take our bikes but before we ride them, we receive safety instructions and an explanation about the operation of the bicycle system (use of brakes, postures to follow, etc.) to have a good performance.
Throughout the tour we have the chance to take some single tracks if it is your preference and if you have the experience for it, of course this is not a competition the most important thing is safety, after crossing a eucalyptus forest we arrive at the first town called Alto Miraflores place for resting and drinking water why not to take some pictures too, later on we cross a beautiful landscape covered by Pre-Inca terraces, while we descend we will be able to understand a bit the lifestyle of the people on the countryside, their hard work on their land as well as their irrigation systems based on channels and aqueducts etc. after an exciting downhill we take a main stop to rehydrate ourselves and taste some snack besides appreciating the beauty of the place, then we will be ready for the last part, this time this is on paved route till the ending point of the tour, there we put the bicycles on our transportation and then return to the city center but if time permits and only for people who have good acclimatization there is the possibility of continuing riding the bicycle for a while longer in the direction of the center, the land for the entire adventure is a combination of, trail with sand, volcanic ash and also asphalt with slight uphill in some parts.
