Overview
Chachani is a volcanic group in southern Peru, 22 kilometres (14 mi) northwest of Arequipa city. Part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, it is 6,075 metres (19,872 ft) above sea level. During the Pliocene and early Pleistocene, the volcanic group produced large ignimbrites such as La Joya, Arequipa Airport and Yura Tuff ignimbrites; afterwards the volcanic group proper grew in the caldera until about 56,500 years ago. There have not been any eruptions during historical time, but the volcano is considered to be only dormant and due to its closeness to Arequipa city is considered high risk.

8:00 am we Pick you from your hotel, bus station or airport, then we start our journey to torres del Perro 4800metros (15840 feet) on the way up we do some stops to take pictures, stretch our legs, use the Inca toilet etc. the landscape changes with the increase in height in this part of the highlands we have a big chance to observe some wild animals vicuñas, guanacos, as well as birds in their natural habitat, since we will be in Salinas And Aguada Blanca National Reserve after 2:30hrs journey we arrived at the starting point, we take our bikes but before start, the mountain bike tour guide give us a safety talk and explanation about the operation of the bicycle system, to have a good performance during downhill.
On the first part we descend approximately 700 meters, following a bumpy terrain in some parts and some close curves, but if you have a little more experience we can take some single tracks, crossing through the Andean grass and yaretas, we get down until 4100m approx. then we make an stop drink water and of course to let the fingers rest and catch our breath, the next part has a bit of uphill for about 20minutes, considered perhaps the hardest part of this excursion since it is still high, but (you have to know that our vehicle will always be behind the group to give us support), after a long journey we do the principal stop to enjoy our snacks and rehydrate ourselves, after the enjoying it, everybody is ready again to continue descending the winding route with some short single tracks on the way down, this great scenery typical of the Peruvian Andes the views are just amazing.
The last part of this tour is on a paved road considered 30% of the entire circuit with minimal traffic in direction to the city so you can enjoy the adrenaline in a spectacular fast downhill to more than 40 kilometers per hour the last place to stop is at a nice lookout point with a spectacular view of all the mountains in Arequipa especially the one that you chose for this amazing experience, then we return to the city center ending at the main square or your hotel.
